Proudly Canadian, eh! Still funny! - Check out this Molson Canadian Ad Transcript! After working on my site for over a month, I decided that I really need to add a separate page to adequately express my pride in being a Canadian. The little "Made in Canada" badge at the left of the screen just isn't enough...so it became a link to this page. Note:
I thought long and hard about adding this page because of the possible
conflict of statements I am presenting on my web site. The fact of the
matter is, I am proud of my Scottish ancestry and I am proud of the country
I call home. I am extremely interested in all things Scottish, but when
it comes right down to it, I am Canadian. So how can I tie this into the Scottish theme of my web site? ...Well as you can see, Canada and my home province of New Brunswick each have a tartan. In fact, I have found samples of three different tartans for New Brunswick. Unfortunately, I haven't got the foggiest idea why NB has three tartans. If you know, please . There are many reasons why I am proud to be Canadian, but I shall hit on only a few. First of all, in Canada I am free to express my thoughts and opinions without fear of recrimination. It is funny how often we take this for granted, especially since this type of freedom is only a dream for citizens of many other nations. I am free. The opinions expressed in this web site are my proof. I am proud to be Canadian because of our wonderfully different seasons. That includes long summers with temperatures in the 90's! Our autumns are crisp and cool with foliage of brilliant red and yellow. Canadian winters are cold and refreshing with a pristine blanket of snow covering the ground. Spring is a time of rebirth as maple trees start to unfurl new leaves and migratory birds return to their nesting grounds to breed. The wide open spaces and unpolluted environment, prevalent in much of Canada, allow for many outside activities. I personally enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, softball, football, pond hockey, and swimming. I live in such a beautiful country. In my opinion, the great outdoors has to be experienced in Canada; the true north strong and free! In Canada, we enjoy many social services that other nations simply do not provide to their citizens. We have free healthcare for ALL our citizens. A person's financial situation has absolutely no bearing on the treatment he or she receives. This is something to be very proud of and it is something to fight for in the future. Our free public education system produces graduates with well rounded knowledge of the world around them. Our unemployment insurance and income assistance programs are designed to ensure a certain standard of living for all citizens. There are safety nets in place so that all Canadians may enjoy a long and rewarding life. As a matter of fact, the UN has consistently, over the last decade, named Canada as the best country within which to live. I guess they know a good thing when they see it! Canadians have accomplished much over the years on the world stage. We have contributed heavily to the fields of science, medicine, human rights, arts and entertainment and sports. We have also proven our courage in combat and in peace keeping efforts. Given our relatively sparse population, we have, in my mind at least, earned a place of honour in the global community. But don't take my word for it -check out my favourite Canadian links below. Pride in Canada is evident in each of these fine web sites.
Canuck World Wide.com
- you can rate my site here! This page is dedicated to a man I never knew:, my wife's great-uncle, Waldo Leroy Richardson. On February 26th, 1945, he gave his life in defense of everything I have written about on this page. He was killed in action in Germany during the last days of WWII. He was only 23 years old. Every November 11th, my family and I drive for over an hour to Millville to attend the special Remembrance Day service. Because of this, my young daughter knows who Waldo Richardson was, and knows what he gave for our country. I hope her children will also know and remember. If you have any comments about my Proudly Canadian page, please . |
